Since early 2025, Byner has made available a simplified REST API with API key authentication. This API provides two main functions: getJobs to retrieve job postings and postCandidate plus uploadDocument to return applications and attachments.
In practice, we build a custom WordPress plugin that addresses this API. The plugin periodically retrieves jobs and stores them in its own database structure (custom post type), so they get their own URLs on your site, are findable in Google for Jobs and searchable by tags such as location or position. If a job post disappears from Byner, the plugin automatically takes it offline. This prevents candidates from applying for a position that no longer exists.
Does someone apply via your website? Then the plugin sends the data and CV to Byner in two steps. UTM parameters are sent along so you can see in Byner through which marketing campaign a candidate came in. Useful information for your marketing team.
On paper, the Byner documentation looks straightforward. But in practice, there is more to it than just making API calls. You have to take into account pagination for large numbers of jobs, error handling if the API is temporarily unavailable, a good mapping of custom fields, and the AVG requirements regarding candidate data. In addition, you want an application form that matches the house style of your website and neatly handles errors.
A mistake in the matching means lost applicants. And you can’t afford that in this job market.
