Creating a new website following a well thought out step-by-step plan; here’s how it works!

Briefing

Before you put an Internet agency to work, you should have crystal clear what your needs and requirements are. So management and the marketing and sales departments will have to hold the necessary meetings for that. Then you put the resulting expectations on paper, in what’s called a website brief.

You can send that website brief to several Internet agencies on your short list – up to three. Indeed, that is what that document is for. The idea is that with it, you create a level playing field from which proposals roll out that are easier to compare. Download a handy website briefing template here that you just need to fill in.

Agreed

Many of our clients chose 2manydots precisely because of our knowledge and experience, the fact that we speak in understandable language and basically become an extension of the organization. When you also choose us, we draw up a contract in which we set out the agreements and completion date. That then allows you to plan ahead. For example, if the website is going to offer your customers new features, you’ll know when to start communicating that.

Homework

After signing the cooperation agreement, it’s not like you can sit back. We believe that we achieve the best results by working together. That’s why you get a little “homework” from us. In a document that you can return completed, we ask you to explain your goals, tell us more about your target audience, give examples of websites that appeal to you and send in corporate identity documents.

Kick-off

The kick-off is the meeting with which we mark the actual beginning of the project. This is attended by those who will be actively engaged in -and have a say in- the project. Your project leader, possibly joined by someone from management or the marketing department, will then meet with 2manydots’ production team.

MoSCoW list

Developing a website is both a creative and technical process. The two usually go hand in hand, but are occasionally in conflict with each other. Certain features then prove too complicated or costly to incorporate into the first version of the new website. Therefore, it is important to set priorities and we do that by applying the MoSCoW method.

The MoSCoW list lists the requirements that the client (i.e., you) requires of us. The available budget and the time available are the main factors that determine how far we can complete the list of priorities. The capital letters in this acronym stand for the following items:

  • M: Must haves
    For the project to succeed, at the very least all the must haves must be incorporated into the new website.
  • S: Should haves
    These are the features or things that are highly desired. Without processing them, the website is still usable.
  • C: Could haves
    If there is enough time and this is possible within the budget, we implement these non-essential items as much as possible.
  • W: Won’t haves
    These are the desires that are not addressed in this project. In a follow-up project, however, they may be of interest.

Design demo

During the design demo, we present the initial style direction for your new website. This shows you how we interpret your wishes and requirements into a design. We create such a design of several pages on your site so that you get a first impression of the look-n-feel of the new site. Hereby you give us a “go” or “no go”: continue in this style or start all over again, although the latter hardly ever happens.

Satisfied with our initial, visual interpretation of your brief? Then, after you agree on the style, we design the remaining templates in the same style.

Feedback

You may shoot the design demo completely. In practice, this hardly ever happens because the briefing and consultation during the kick-off give us a good idea of what a client wants. Still, we like to get whatever feedback we can so that we are completely aligned for the next phase. Submitting feedback is very easy in a visual way via a convenient online tool.

Design Accord

If our design of the various pages looks just as you envisioned, you give the design approval. From what are basically static images, we then create the new website.

2manydots builds all websites in WordPress. We do not use standard templates or premium themes for this purpose. Because we work for large organizations with unique challenges and requirements, only customization will suffice. In other words, there will be no website like yours.

Transfer and development

After your design agreement, the web designer goes to work with the development team to create a custom WordPress theme. If your needs and requirements call for it, we develop custom functionalities and links.

Testing

After developing your WordPress site, it’s time to test it. Do all the links work? Do all pages load that fast? Is security in place? To answer these and other questions, we use a combination of automated tools and manual checks. We also provide the page structure so you can easily get started posting content.

Technical delivery

We turned the design into a working WordPress site that met all the set requirements and quality levels. Now it is time to show this site to you. With preferably the same group as during the kick-off, we review the results. We quietly click through the entire site, providing comments as needed and answering your questions.

Having played out the front-end together, we move on to the back-end. Now you’ll get an explanation of how to get started with your new website. You will receive a brief manual with this so that you can refer to it at a later time, if necessary.

Posting content

Your new site is not yet accessible to visitors, but it is accessible to you. It is now time to “fill” the website. You place desired content, such as text, images and videos on pages and in blog posts. If, in the process, you run into things that the test phase did not uncover, you flag them and we solve them according to the bug or improvement protocol.

Migration Plan

Until now, we have worked together on a website that was accessible in a restricted location only to authorized people like you. After a few rounds of corrections and the technical demo, the site is ready to be activated. Many businesses already have a website. In that case, a migration plan is necessary to ensure search engine rankings. In consultation with you, we choose a suitable time for the migration to your existing URL.

Go-live

Migrating the new site to your existing or new domain is done on a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. Typically, we perform a migration at a quiet time of day. The migration of your site is completed in an average of 24 hours. That gives you just enough time to stock up on champagne. Cheers!
