A keyword research is not the first, but perhaps the most important stage in your search engine optimization. By conducting a keyword research you can identify relevant keywords that your (potential) customers are searching for. An essential part of your online marketing strategy.

Commissioning keyword research

Conducting a keyword research yourself takes a lot of time and knowledge. Nevertheless, your website cannot do without it. Of course you can use Google Keyword Planner yourself, but the accuracy of this tool decreases a little each year. Because every company wants to end up high on the rankings of Google, the competition is fierce. By outsourcing the keyword research to professionals who have the right tools and knowledge, you can be sure that your website will rank high in Google. And that is what you are doing it all for.

2manydots helps you

We would like to help you achieve a higher position in the Google rankings with the help of a thorough keyword research. After the keyword research, you will receive an extensive analysis with a number of important pillars.

The research
01 Current positions Icon

How are you currently doing? We're going to look at that first. Because why would you throw away something that is working extremely well? We are going to map out for you on which keywords you are already scoring well. It is then a breeze to optimize these pages. When a page is already 'ranked', it is much easier to gain positions. Ranking a new page always takes more time. After this step we look at other keywords.

02 Volume of keywords Icon

It is important to make a good distinction between different keywords. There are keywords with high search volume and keywords with low search volume. Of course you want to put everything on keywords with a high search volume, but logically the competition on these keywords is also much higher. It is therefore more difficult to force a prominent place in Google's rankings. So the trick is to find the balance here. Don't choose keywords with a low search volume, but go for keywords that are searched for enough and where the competition is not fierce. Then there is a good chance that, with the help of good keyword research, you will quickly find your way up the Google rankings.

03 Keyword difficulty Icon

The cut-throat competition for search engines is a major pillar. We call this competition keyword difficulty: an estimate of how difficult it is to rank in the top 10 organic search results for a search term on a scale of 0-100.

For example, the keyword "jobs" has a keyword difficulty of 76. That's a tough task to get into the top 3 in search engines. We therefore prefer to focus on search terms with higher probabilities. In a keyword research we analyze all related searches and check which ones fit you best. You will receive these valuable tips and related searches in an extensive report.

04 What do competitors score on Icon

Competitors often fish in the same proverbial pond as your company. It is therefore important to gain insight into the keywords on which the relevant competitors are found. Are there any keywords among them on which your company is not found at all? Then it's time for action. You want the consumer to at least have the option to choose for your company or your competitors. If your website is not found on a keyword, you are already unnecessarily sidelining your company and your competitors are running away with potential clients.

05 Authority of your website Icon

Whether or not you will score on a search term depends largely on your authority. Building authority for your website is therefore very important. The authority largely determines the reliability of your website among the general public. Companies such as Bol.com, for example, have a lot of authority and therefore they are often assigned a high position in the rankings by Google.

06 A complete URL structure Icon

This pillar seems to be less related to the keyword research, but it is nevertheless important. With the results of the keyword research you can build a complete URL structure for your website with relevant terms. A good URL structure rewards Google with a high position in the search engine rankings. By having a proper navigation on your website and always linking to another underlying page, you build the ideal URL structure. 2manydots always takes this into account and knows after years of experience exactly how you can link through in an organic way.

Added value for SEA

So keyword research largely determines how successful your SEO strategy is. But that thorough keyword research is only beneficial for search engine optimization (SEO) is a fable. In fact, keyword research is also very important for search engine advertising (SEA). When you type in a relevant keyword, you see not only organic results, but also ads. By finding important keywords you can target your ads much better. In this way you know for sure that your ads actually appear in the target group you have aimed at. This way you avoid unnecessary campaign costs because your paid ads end up with the wrong target group.

The tools for a keyword research and types of keywords

Keyword research doesn't come out of the blue. Want to get started with a keyword research project yourself? To find exactly the right keywords, there are several keyword tools available. We explain two easy tools for you and describe the difference between the length of your keywords. These also determine the success you want to achieve.

Keyword planner

A keyword tool that comes directly from the largest search engine itself is Google Keyword Planner. This free tool therefore gets its data directly from the search engine and can therefore be considered reliable. A side note to this tool is that it is primarily designed for SEA, after all, it is not called Google Ads keyword planner for nothing. Nevertheless, for beginners this tool is a godsend in the search for interesting keywords that can be used to achieve a higher SEO score.

Search Console

Your website probably already contains many keywords. It is then advisable to first look at the search terms you (unconsciously) already use in your texts. Chances are that you already rank well for certain keywords. It is then a waste to tinker with these. Google's Search Console is an ideal tool for this. Enter the keywords of your website and see a report showing which keywords you can be found on. New keywords are tempting but first look at what you already have. Search Console is a paid tool but it also has free variants. Then you can focus on the best keywords for your business.

Long tail search terms

The most extensive search term of all are the long tail keywords. These are long search terms often containing more than three keywords. An example of a long tail search query is: How to conduct an SEO keyword research? Longer search terms (long tail keywords) will generally have a lower search volume than the shorter variants. However, when you combine many longer search terms into one text, your SEO score will rise faster than when you only incorporate short search terms into your text.

Short tail search terms

The counterpart of long tail search terms is the short tail search term. You don't have to be very deep into the subject matter to understand that these are short tail search terms. The advantage of this type of search term is its high search volume. An example of a short tail search term is "keyword. However, it is difficult to be distinctive with these shot tail keywords, as the competition here is much higher than on a lower, specific word.
