Optimize your website
with technical SEO

What is technical SEO?

Technical SEO is improving the technical side of your website to achieve a higher ranking in Google’s organic search results. So during technical SEO, there is less focus on fitting certain search terms within a web text. However, various technical elements within a website are improved, think of:

  • Making a website faster
  • Clearly identify and implement the structure of a website
  • Making the website understandable to search engines
  • Making the website more user-friendly
  • Countering Duplicate Content
  • Website security

Why is optimizing your website so important?

Website findability depends on a number of SEO (search engine optimization) pillars, namely: technology, content, authority and ease of use. The website must be made as friendly as possible for Google to include it in search results. By creating a technical SEO scan, we can remove all barriers to Google’s search engine crawler. Basically, technical SEO is the starting point of any SEO project. Technical problems such as long load times or unnecessarily dead links penalize Google. So it is just as important as good content. The website can have so much good content, if Google cannot retrieve it according to the guidelines, the website will not be findable either.

The glossary

SEO technique: what does it cover?

SEO technique is very important for the findability of your website. It includes many ranking factors and for this we have created a technical SEO checklist. The most important ranking factors from the technical SEO checklist that are indispensable for your technical SEO are highlighted below.

Duplicate content

Duplicate content

Duplicate content can get in the way of your technical SEO considerably. Duplicate content is an English term for duplicate content. If you have the same text recurring on different web pages on your website, this falls under duplicate content. Copying text from other websites, in addition to being punishable, is also not good for your technical SEO. Duplicate content can be in page titles and meta descriptions in addition to web texts. Duplicate content can also be noticed by Google when you have too few words on your web pages. The words in the footer, which is probably the same on every page, is also counted as duplicate content by the search engines. Thus, we recommend at least 400 words per page. That way you can be sure you have unique content and duplicate content is out of the question. So this problem has already been tackled! For more information on duplicate content, you can read this blog.

Loading speed of your website

Loading speed of your website

Nothing is more annoying than a slow website. Your users should be able to navigate effortlessly through your website toward the information they are looking for. In addition, the loading speed of your website has a lot of influence on technical SEO. Google’s crawlers notice and note a slow loading speed right away. It is also possible that you do not notice the speed of your website, but Google’s crawlers do not find it optimal enough. As a result, this component is often overlooked. So always make sure the loading speed of your website is optimal. Curious about the speed of your website? Check it out with this tool! Not sure how to influence your website’s loading speed in a positive way? 2manydots has already accomplished this for many websites and would be happy to do the same for you.

Different urls

Different urls

Do you handle different languages on your website? Then use a different URL for each language you display on your website. The various URLs are good for your technical SEO and that’s what this page is all about.

Internal link structure

Internal link structure

Because you handle so many different URLs, a good internal link structure is very important. Your website pages should be connected through internal links. Do you write a blog on a regular basis? Or do you regularly compose landing pages? Then make sure you take internal links into account while writing your content. Look for openings everywhere to link through to another page on your website.

Redirects and migration

Redirects and migration

Do you want to move domain name? If so, don’t forget to migrate your content above all. If you do not migrate your current content, each page must be re-indexed. Any SEO score you have built up to that point is then lost. You then also lose speed and link value. Also, always keep redirecting without moving your content. When you only change a url, make sure it is redirected immediately. Also avoid redirect chains. That is, url A links to url B and B links back to C. You lose speed and link value that way. Actually, you want A to link directly to C.

Page experience

Page experience

Of course, the user experience within your website should be optimal for your visitors. The various pillars already mentioned obviously contribute to an improved page experience, but don’t forget to also create a mobile-friendly website for your visitors. A large proportion of Internet users today visit websites via mobile.

Image optimization

Image optimization

You would almost forget but the images on your website also contribute to technical SEO.

Securing your website

Securing your website

Https stands for Hyper Text Transfer Protocol Secure and works with an SSL security certificate. The certificate encrypts the communication between the website and the visitor. All data on your website will then be processed securely, causing cybercriminals to miss out. In addition, this certificate is indispensable for maintaining SEO score. Crawling and indexing

How exactly does page indexing work? Crawlers, also known as Spiders, scour the entire Internet looking for Web pages to index the content on those pages. Once the robots land on your Web site, they follow various links within your Web pages. A good internal link structure is very important to these crawlers. So keep that in mind when building your website.

Robots.txt: indispensable for your SEO

Don’t forget to optimize the Robots.txt file. This helps Google’s crawlers better evaluate your website. This may sound like higher math, but this method is relatively easy to apply to your Web site. Robots.txt is a text file that can point out to crawlers which web pages they should and should not index. After all, you also have web pages on your website that don’t need to be found on Google. The web pages on which you sell products and services or the home page of a website do need to be indexed. You can detail all that to the crawlers via the Robots.txt text file. So you can use this file, as it were, to tell search engines not to show a page in search results. It is also wise to create an xml sitemap for your website. With this xml sitemap, you create a concept of your website that crawlers can use to index your website. In this xml sitemap, you place all the pages that have priority when it comes to ranking high in the Google rankings.
